Daniel 12 Many Shall Run to and Fro and Knowledge Shall Be Increased

Does this verse resonate with our reality today? Daniel 12:4 (KJV) states: "But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Living in this age where knowledge is expanding at an unpreceded rate. With the advancements in technology, the rapid development of artificial intelligence, and global accessibility.

Consider these examples:
  • The internet revolutionized communication and access to information.
  • Artificial intelligence processes data and solves problems at speeds far beyond human capability.
  • Advances in transportation allow people to move “to and fro” shrinking the world.
  • The expansion of knowledge impacts every aspect of life, accelerating change, innovation, and even how time is perceived.

Additionally, Matthew 24:22 (KJV) states: "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.", speaking of days being shortened for the sake of the elect, which could be interpreted as a divine act of mercy during the end times. If this "shortening" is viewed as an acceleration of time. The rapid pace of change may not only symbolize the nearing of the end but also be part of the conditions that catalyze final transformation, judgment, or awakening. Humanity's overwhelming reliance on technology and the quickened pace of life could be the very conditions that test faith, morality, and spiritual readiness.

Another interpretation could connect to Revelation 10:6 (KJV) states: "And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer." , where an angel proclaims, "There will be no more delay." This declaration suggests an impending conclusion, aligning with the idea of time seemingly speeding up as we approach the culmination of prophetic events.

Theologians debate Daniel’s prophecy, with interpretations ranging from literal to symbolic. Some view the increase in knowledge as a spiritual awakening or the spread of the gospel worldwide—something greatly facilitated by technology. Others see it as a sign of humanity’s domination over the earth, potentially hastening its end through environmental or societal crises.

Whether or not we interpret Daniel’s prophecy as directly linked to technology, it serves as a reminder to reflect on our lives and priorities. The speed of modern life often leaves little room for introspection or spiritual connection. Are we caught in the rush of "going to and fro," or are we taking the time to deepen our understanding of the world and our place in it? Are we being called to awaken and prepare for what lies ahead?

God's plans are always greater than anything we can imagine. The Bible consistently reminds us that His timing, purpose, and promises are perfect—even when we can't fully grasp them. As Isaiah 55:8-9 (KJV) states: "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
